Here are 3 interesting facts people do not know about Superman:
He was not supposed to fly.
In the 1940s, the action hero was only able to jump at high distances and was not able to fly, the reason behind the voice over, “able to leap tall buildings in a single bound”. However, the company that produced the animated version, Max Fleischer Studios, found it difficult to create the scenes so they requested that Superman be portrayed as flying.
Superman started as a villain.
In the 1932 illustrated version of Superman, which was the first time Jerry Siegel and Joe Shutter collaborated, the story of Superman was about a homeless-turned-mad scientist Bill Dunn who invented a chemical which changes him into Superman. He had the power to control and read the minds of people. In the story, Superman killed Dunn and did bad things to control the world.
He was investigated on the issue of atomic bomb leaks.
When World War II was about to end and the U.S. was in the process of developing an atomic bomb, it was also around that time that there was a storyline in the newspaper cartoon strip where Superman visited an atom-smashing cyclotron. This stirred the FBI and soon enough, the editorial offices were visited by FBI agents to see if there really were possible leaks.
No matter what odd stories will circulate about this iconic hero, Superman will always be the “Man of Steel” and well-loved by fans.
