Hosts for the show were BBC DJs Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton. The awards was broadcasted live via BBC One, Radio 1 and Radio 2 that time, and was live on television in Denmark, Japan, Ireland and North America.

Coldplay’s Chris Martin opened the program with a comic rendition of “Sky Full of Stars” from the backstage while artists busy themselves in getting ready and purposefully ignored the singing star.

The program went on with a huge lineup of performances from some of the most favored artists in Britian, including Ed Sheeran, who was awarded British Act of the Year.

Sheeran rendered an engaging acoustic version of his single entitled “Sing” with his guitar and loop pedal. Coincidentally, Pharrell Williams who reaped several prizes that night produced Sheeran’s single, beating off David Bowie, Elbow, Jungle, and Royal Blood and Sam Smith.

American singer-song writer and record producer, Williams, earned the award Best International Artist and Song of the Year for his “Happy” single. Nominees for International Artist for the Year included Dolly Parton, Gregory Porter, Lorde, Prince, and Taylor Swift. Williams was a no-show, however, being busy with filming for The Voice USA. Song for the Year was the only award decided by the public.

Also awarded that night were newcomers Catfish and the Bottlemen who eagerly showcased their music prowess to the huge crowd.

The night was made short but memorable with performances from Calvin Harris, Clean Bandit, Ellie Goulding and Take That. One Direction serenaded the audience with their single “Steal My Heart”.

Ella Henderson had a duet with Labrinth, rendering two songs namely “Jealous” and “Ghost” while Tom Jones and Paloma Faith also had a duet, a live rendition of The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows”.
